Inquiry to be completed!

24 11 2010

Peter Garrett, Minister of School Education, has requested the House Standing Committee on Education and Employment to complete the Inquiry into Teacher Librarians which was interrupted by this year’s federal election. Well done all who sent messages urging this to be done.  And well done Sharon Bird and Peter Garrett!  We look forward to a report early next year.

Mrs Joy Payne

The Inquiry into the role of teacher-librarians and school libraries is 30 years overdue. A well-researched response and a commitment of substantial funding from the federal and state governments to train, employ and make provision for sustaining school libraries will benefit not only the next generation of learners but boost the economy of Australia. Without planned and purposeful investments in building up the information literacy of students Australians will struggle to support an aliterate society and degenerate into a third world country.
